Wanted: Blogging Advice

November 16, 2015

I have now officially been blogging for a month! Overall, I’m pleased with how it is going, but there are definitely some areas that I’m hoping to improve on. I’m hoping to get some advice from all of you out there on how to make my site even better! Here are a few questions/thoughts/ideas I have:

1) I’d like to make my site more interactive with people posting comments, sharing ideas and content. Are there strategies to make it more comfortable for people to post?

2) I’m getting ready to do my first giveaway. Any helpful tips?

3) For my review posts, I’ve been including a book synopsis from Goodreads.com with some brief follow up thoughts with my impressions of the book. Is this format working for people or is there something you would like to see done differently?

4) I’m looking to expand my audience both through subscriptions to the site as well as followers on Twitter. Any suggestions for building a fan base?

5) Does the overall look and layout of the site work for you? What changes would make it more visually appealing?

I would love to hear from both my current subscribers as well as those who have been blogging for awhile! Please comment below with any advice/suggestions/input! I love to hear from you guys!!!!

I wish I could help. These are great questions that I would like to know the answers to myself, but I’m new to blogging to a larger audience. I hope you get your answers!

Hi Lisa, congrats on your new blog! I personally think that it’s nice and clean (and easy to read and navigate). Do you visit other blogs with related topics and leave comments? This is a great way to get traffic to your blog because most people will be kind enough to return a visit. Do this a few times and after a while, blogger friendships are born. You’ll have to do this with many bloggers to build these kinds of relationships, and it can be time consuming but extremely rewarding, especially once you get to know people. Are you a member of SheWrites? There’s a couple of blogging groups there where you can list what you blogged about and post the link. Most people will visit you if you do, or visit you if you visit them first. Also try the Insecure Writer’s Support Group. We post the first Wednesday of every month. And I think it’s quite common for bloggers to include the book blurb along with a review. It might also be a good idea to include the Goodreads link and buy links to Amazon and other such places. Anyway, good luck to you! I’m sure your blog will grow as long as you keep at it:)
