2015 Challenges

As the new year gets under way, many reading and blogging challenges are also getting underway. So many of the challenges look fun, but I also know that I cannot possibly join them all (even though I am highly interested in many). As a new blogger, I decided to pick a couple of challenges that align with my reading plans for the upcoming year. They are challenges that I feel capable of meeting, and they don’t have a bunch of demands required. I hope all of you might join in a challenge or two with me! You can click on the challenge below to be taken to the website to sign up!

Book Blogger Organization Challenge

This challenge hosted by Brittany over at The Book Addict’s Guide is the one that got me started on 2015 challenges, and this is the one I am most excited about. As a new blogger, I think this will teach me so much about blogging, reading, and connecting with people (as well as getting me organized and on top of my blog)! Brittany has one of my favorite blogs, and I’m looking forward to the process of this challenge! As part of the January challenge, I have set my goals for 2015 and I am committing to my challenges today. I still need to think more about the organization of my posting as well as documenting more of the specifics of my reading (I didn’t participate in any end-of-the-year wrap-ups because it would have taken me FOREVER to track down the info required). This challenge is definitely a process, and I will share my journeys as I move forward through it!

The 2015 Goodreads Reading Challenge

So many of you are on Goodreads, and this is the easiest challenge! You simply determine how many books you want to read in 2015 and declare it on the site. Goodreads does all of the tracking for you, and provides you a nice graphic illustrating how far along you are in reaching your goal! Since many of you are already logging your reads here, it doesn’t get much easier than this. I have decided to aim for 52 books in 2015 – one per week. I know that I will sometimes do better, and sometimes do not as well, but I feel like this is an attainable goal for me. In addition, Goodreads offers many widgets for book bloggers, and I will be investigating these options as part of my organization challenge in January.

Jazz Age January

I actually love reading about this period of time in history! When I saw this challenge only required me to read 1 book, of course I was in! Hosted by Leah over at Books Speak Volumes, this will be a quick one that is checked off my list soon! I am planning to read Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler, and I hope to get this book at the library in the next few days!

Around the World 2015 Reading Challenge

This is another challenge hosted by All About Books that doesn’t necessarily add to your reading load (unless you take on some of the mini challenges suggested). I have simply set up a google map and will track the places that my book adventures take me! I am interested to see how many different locations I will visit over the course of a year. I am not going to commit to any of the mini challenges at this point – I simply want to get more of a baseline as to where my reading occurs. I’m still trying to figure out how to embed the map on my blog so that you can follow along (some things that seem so simple are really not!).

2015 Library Challenge

Hosted by Book Journeythis challenge simply encourages you to use your local library more. Those of you who know me well, know that I am a HUGE fan of my local library! I use the Palatine Public Library, and the resources are simply amazing (more on this in another post). I like to encourage library support whenever I can, and that’s why I’m taking this challenge on. Plus, this is something I already do, and all I have to do is keep track of my checkout numbers. I’m going for the gusto on this one with 28 checkouts (which would give me the title of Going Pro!). I check out many books that I never get to (I am a mood reader, and I like to have options when I pick up my next read), but I won’t count the books that I don’t read :) .

New Authors Challenge

Throughout 2014, I discovered many new authors, and I want to continue this trend in 2015. My books so far have already been by new authors! Hosted by Literary Escapism, this challenge will keep me accountable on tracking new authors. I am also excited about the potential for discovering new authors from others as well as making more connections in general within the book blogging community. The two facets that I like most about this challenge are that you can select authors that are new to you (not just debut authors), and you can select the number of new authors you want to aim for (15, 25, or 50). Since it is my first year, I am going to shoot for 15 new authors (though I anticipate that I will exceed this number).

Banned Books Challenge

I know, you all are thinking I’m getting carried away, but I seriously haven’t really pushed out my comfort zone yet. This challenge hosted by Buckling Bookshelves  is the only challenge that I’m signing up for that will require me to seek out books that might not necessarily be included in my daily reading. I want to read more banned books so I’m excited about what I might find on this challenge. Again, since it is my first year, I’m aiming low with 1-2 banned books (which will earn me the title of Making Waves).
