Hello Summer – The Chicago Attractions

June 22, 2015

I love all of the possibilities that summer holds so this week I’ve decided to do a little feature on all the things I hope to pack in during the next couple of months. Today, I’ll focus on the attractions I plan to see (click on the attraction name to go to their website) – with many of them happening this very week on my extended family’s Chicago Staycation.

The Shedd Aquarium

This attraction is always a huge hit with my niece and nephew. They love to see animals they rarely get to see, and they love the opportunity to interact with some of these animals. The aquatic show is so-so (but the staging area overlooking Lake Michigan is beautiful), but I highly enjoy the exhibit where you can pet the stingrays. You also need to check out the penguins and jellyfish! If you are ever in Chicago, one of my favorite features at the Shedd is Jazzin’ at the Shedd, which is held on Wednesday evenings during the summer. You have access to all the exhibits while enjoying wine and jazz music as you view!

The Willis Tower (aka The Sears Tower)

It has been years since I’ve been to the top of the Sears Tower – the last time they didn’t even have The Ledge. I have to admit that I have a mild fear of heights, and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to actually go out and stand on this glass enclosure on the 103rd floor. I’ll have to let you know later on how I do!

The Field Museum of Natural History

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve been to the Field Museum as well. We have lots of places we want to fit in some I’m not sure how long we will be here (I’m sure not long enough to appreciate everything), but I’ll make the most of the time we have there!

The Art Institute of Chicago

My 9 year old niece surprised me when she put in a request to check out “that art museum in the city”. I love the Art Institute, but I didn’t know if the kids would yet have an appreciation for it. I think we will give it a shot and see how she likes it. Maybe the infamous lions will still have their Hawks gear on from the Stanley Cup festivities that overtook our city!

Adler Planertarium

Yet another Chicago attraction I haven’t been to in years. I’ve always had an interest in space, and I love seeing the new and fascinating things that Planetarium has to offer.

Eataly

eatalyI’ve been wanting to check out this foodie heaven since it opened (I think it’s been almost a couple of years ago now). Focaccia, Italian dishes, wine, cheeses, sushi, gelato, meats, cold pressed drinks, not to mention a Nutella bar (have I mentioned my love of Nutella). I will make sure to go hungry and enjoy all that I can!

In addition to all of the above, we plan to do lots of walking and just stopping in at places that strike our fancy. In my monthly wrap-ups, I’ll fill you in on the places we discover!

What attractions are you planning on checking out this summer?
