24 in 48 Readathon – January 2016

January 14, 2016

You may recall that I participated in the 24 in 48 Readathon back in July of 2015. I really enjoy this particular Readathon because it offers you sooooo much flexibility. The goal is to read 24 hours in a 48 hour time span. This time around the dates are this weekend January 16th-17th. I love that I don’t have to lose sleep to participate, and I can still have plans with family and/or friends as well. I know that it is unlikely that I will hit all 24 hours, but I am going to give it my best shot. It helps that I have a 3 day weekend, and I can still catch up on some things after the Readathon is over on Monday!

I am a mood reader, so I’m never exactly sure what I will read, but here are some of the likely possibilities:

You can follow my progress here on this post (I will update it as the day goes on) or on Twitter @rwrmusings. I would love to hear that you are joining in on the reading festivities as well!

Day 1 10:00 am Update: I was out with friends later than I expected last night, and I was actually awake at midnight this time around to start the big event with everyone. Last night I read for 45 minutes, and I finished Made You Up (which I thought I would have been done with already, but oh well). I’m heading out to see my niece’s black belt ceremony (yes she is so bad ass), and then my nephew’s hockey game. Don’t worry about my reading though….I should get at least an hour in on my Rogue Lawyer audiobook as I’m driving. I’ll be back this afternoon to check in, and I will be starting on George at that time. Enjoy your reading!

Day 1 6:00 pm Update: Much to my amazement, I was able to get in 1 hour and 45 minutes of my audiobook as I was running between the activities of my niece and nephew (which was so fun, and I’ve also managed to have an awesome family day at the same time). I’m now going to grab dinner. I have read a total of 3 hours and 30 minutes so far. I’m halfway through George, and I am really enjoying it. I’ll check in with you again before bed!

Day 1 9:30 pm Update: Not only have I gotten quite a bit of reading in today, but I’ve also managed to spend time with my family as well as watch both playoff games (did you know I’m a huge football fan). I am currently at 6 hours total!! I finished George, which I loved. Coincidentally, I needed to finish Charlotte’s Web for work, which happens to be a huge part of George, so finishing both back to back worked well for me. I am now starting Slade House. It is unlikely that I will finish it before I go to bed, but I will have to let you know for sure in the morning. Sleep well fellow readers!

Day 2 12:15 pm Update: I managed to get in another hour of reading last night, and an hour when I woke up this morning, but I’ve been pretty sluggish since then. I’m hoping to get my mojo back soon. I’m about a quarter of the way through Slade House, and so far I’m very intrigued by it. I’ll keep you posted on my feelings at the next update.

Day 2 8:30 pm Update: I was able to get in another 3 hours of reading (for a total of 11 hours) before I met up with some friends for drinks. I’m now home, and I’m hoping to finish Slade House before the end of this event. I’m really enjoying this book because it is very unique and different. I can’t wait to finish it!

Are you participating in #24in48 this weekend? Let me know how I can follow your progress and cheer you on!

Yay! I’m participating too (will be my first ever readathon of any kind) and much the way you are! No way I’ll read for 24 hours, but will just read a lot. And – I love its flexibility and lack of pressure to stay up late as well!
